Our Story

In 2018, we began with four other families who were purchasing food and assembling a backpack for children in Jimtown Schools. There were children there who were not eating much on the weekends.

When Covid hit in 2020 and schools shut down, we had food to hand out but no children to give it to. We didn’t have access to their addresses.

On a Saturday morning, Kim and Scott decided to pack up some food into boxes and load it up into their truck. We targeted 3 neighborhoods in the Jimtown area and started knocking on doors asking people if they could use free food. We found many families who were not working and were struggling to feed their families. We also found many grandparents who were on a fixed income that were raising their grandchildren without any financial help.

So we began to box and deliver food to over 50 families a month. Often we would hear stories that there was no food in the house and then we showed up.

As of November of 2023, we are delivering food to over 400 families in the Jimtown area. We store and pack the food in our Gym which is where our name came from.

We have helped families in a lower income retirement community who have been hit hard with the recent food cost increases.

With the help of faithful and amazing volunteers who sort, pack and deliver food, we are able to bring tens of thousands of pounds each year to families in need!

Our goal is to help people in need in the Jimtown area and beyond. With the gas prices going up and food costs increasing, there are still so many people currently in need.

We are the only ministry in this area who delivers food directly to homes. It is an honor and privilege to be able to do this!

We are so thankful to God for the opportunity to serve Him and others. We are also thankful to our many volunteers and those that support us financially.

Testimonials

So many people have been blessed by Gymtown Pantry. Here are a few stories.

I was in the hospital for three weeks with heart problems and my wife was with me, so she lost her job. When I came home, we had no money or food in the house. The next day there was a knock at my door. It was Gymtown Pantry asking if I could use some free food. My wife and I cried as they brought many boxes of food into our house. They continued to bring food until we were able to get back to work.

My wife and I and our two children had Covid for two weeks and couldn’t work. Gymtown Pantry had stopped several times before and we didn’t need the food. This time, I waved them down and asked them if they had any extra food. They brought food to our door. We were so thankful because we couldn’t get to a store. We now accept their food and help out our neighbors with our extra food.

— Jeremy

In my house lives my husband who is disabled, a son who is blind, and a daughter with 2 small children. I am on a small, fixed income. We are excited when we see the Gymtown Pantry truck driving through our neighborhood. Thanks for the incredible food!
